That awkward moment when you delete your blog

Well this is a funny one isn’t it? Firstly, you’ll notice that the blog looks a little different and you’ll also notice that there’s only one post.

Yes, I was that unlucky person that forgot to backup her blog and then forgot to pay for the next lot of her hosting. Thus deleting the past four years into the depths of doom.

As upset as I was about the whole thing, I still have my memories, my photos and you know what I do have now, the chance to use this domain to do something real.

I loved my blog. It was a piece of me and I loved interacting with my followers but now I feel this is time to make a change and make my blog more real, more personal and more in touch with what I’m doing now.

Don’t worry, it will still focus on a lot of travel and I will be sharing some of my favourite memories especially from my travels.

To all of you bloggers that follow Luggage Tags, remember to back up. And to everyone, let’s get started on this big journey ahead.

It’s real, it’s exciting!

  1. Oh no! I can only imagine how devastating this must be, but it seems like you are taking it well! Looking forward to seeing your new site! 🙂

Good on ya! Should never be afraid to start something afresh! I’ll be following your adventures!

That is devastating! I’m not sure I’d have quite that positive spin if it had happened to me and I’ve only been blogging for real for a few months.

It just so happens that I worked on getting my blog backed up this past week, as I had a vivid daydream of how upset I’d be if I woke up to a blog that had disappeared. It’s an excellent reminder!

ARGH!!! I am so sorry to hear this!!!! I now back up my site in THREE different ways because I’m so terrified of losing seven years worth of work and 700 posts. Good luck moving forward and rebuilding your empire!

  5. I would be crushed but look forward to seeing your new directions. I back up automatically. Welcome back. Where to next!

  6. Brianna says:

Yikes! While frustrating I’m glad to see that you view this as a fresh start. I will definitely be sure to back up myself!

  7. Yikes! No good! You have a great attitude about it though! Good reminder to always back everything up!

  8. Vicki Louise says:

Oh my god! I admire how you’re dealing with the whole thing, but I can honestly say I’d be devastated! Off to back up my blog now… Good luck on your new journey!

  9. Oh my gosh! I’d collapse. Good for you for moving on. Is there really no way you can get your posts back? Argggh. I feel your pain. I think I forgot to pay once, but only for a few hours, but I didn’t lose anything.

  10. Wow, that must have been a really devastating… But we’re really glad that you have found a way to move forward. Nothing lasts forever and we look forward to reading your new posts!

OH. MY. GOD. My heart sank into my stomach just reading this. Good for you for looking on the brightside. I can so see myself doing something like this. I’m going to go back up right now!

  12. Great advice. I back-up once a month so I will only lose a month if something happens. Plus don’t ignore those please pay emails, they would really like your money so they don’t delete you stuff.

  13. Shobha says:

Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry to hear but you have such a positive attitude. I’d probably cry and need prolonged ‘rest’ 🙂 But you are now a blogger with experience after 4 years so no doubt your first few posts won’t be the embarrassment that they are for many newbie bloggers (including myself) looking back.

  14. Janna says:

Wow I dont know how I woul’ve reacted if that happened to me. I admire how youre handling the situation. I wish you good luck on your “new” blog!

  15. Megan says:

Oh no!! It’s great that you’re able to step forward and are looking at an opportunity to start fresh. Sure it’s not as easy as you’re making it look. Can’t wait to see where it goes.

  16. Hannah says:

Oh goodness, this must have been heartbreaking! I’m glad at least that something positive has come of it and that you can push past it with such positivity! Looking forward to seeing where you’re going with your blog now! xx
